Dear Patti Smith

Today's prompt was to write to a friend, a neighbor etc. I didn't know why but I had this sudden urge to write to you.
I have often thought of writing to you but have never known what to say really without it sounding like fan mail.
You've left me awed, mesmerized, inspired, broken and mended all in one go. I aim for this to be like one of those letters that you would write to some author, poet, artist. But I don't know how my words can be as honest or as beautiful and yet innocent as yours.

"Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine
Meltin' in a pot of thieves
Wild card up my sleeve
Thick heart of stone
My sins my own
They belong to me, me"

You have to taught me to be me and be okay about it. You've taught me to exist in multitudes.

"When suddenly Johnny gets the feeling he's being surrounded by
horses, horses, horses, horses
coming in in all directions
white shining silver studs with their nose in flames,
He saw horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses."

Your voice kept ringing in my ear! It still rings. It's ringing while I am writing this letter. How is it that you're so real? How is it that you're so alive? How is it that you don't know how beautiful you are? How is it that you're so honest? How is it that in this day and age you are so true? How is it that you're so free?

I am sorry but I can not finish this. Words totally completely betray me! But I promise I am going to keep coming back to this and finish it one day.

So I am going to leave this letter be with a big big THANK YOU for existing. For your art has been so special to me and many many others like me.
